Step 1.
It is important to make sure you think your tattoo out first. Since they are relatively permanent, make sure it is something that you will not regret. Will it be purely decorative or representational? Decide the theme.
Step 2.
Next you have to find out who will draw it. Are you going to do it? You can also recruit a friend or talk to the tattoo artist about what you specifically want.
Step 3.
When you sit down to design your tattoo, try to imagine where it will be and if it will translate well into a tattoo. If it is too complicated, your tattoo artist will not be able to replicate it.
Step 4.
It is important for you to see how your design will look. Try using stencils to translate your design onto your body prior to getting tattooed. That way there are no surprises.
