Senior pitcher Darcy Wood stepped up for the Sycamores (11-19, 3-10 MVC) Saturday as the team was able to avoid the weekend sweep at home by Creighton University (23-10, 11-2 MVC).

Wood threw a seven-inning complete game shutout. An outing which racked up 10 strikeouts for Wood in the Sycamores' 1-0 win over the Bluejays.

The only run of the game came off the bat of ISU senior pitcher/ utility player Katie Armour whose RBI double allowed Meredith Simpson to score.

The win comes after back-to-back home losses to Creighton in a double-header Friday.

During the first game the Sycamores were plagued by errors as they fell 0-7, however, only two of the runs were earned.

In game two, Wood began her weekend dominance as she struck out 17 batters. Wood's 17 strikeouts is the most strikeouts by any Missouri Valley Conference pitcher this season. It is also only six strikeouts away from her career high of 23.

Wood also added to her career strikeout record, which is now at 876.

Despite an exceptional effort from Wood where she pitched seven complete innings giving up four runs off five hits, the Sycamores were unable to go the offense going and fell 4-2.

Once again, errors dampered the Sycamores' day as they recorded three errors, accounting for all four of the Bluejays' runs.

The Sycamores will next be in action against Butler University Wednesday, where they will take the field for a doubleheader against the Bulldogs.

The first game is set to begin at 2 p.m. with the second game of the day beginning at 4 p.m. at Butler.
