Students with high amounts of school spirit and lots of enthusiasm for Sycamore athletics are needed for the Indiana State University cheer team.
The ISU cheer team will be holding open tryouts to any female ISU student on Sunday, Nov. 9, in the south gym of the Arena.
"I am hoping to put a happy spin on the tryouts and the new direction of the organization," said head cheer coach Tammy Schaffer.
The cheer team will cheer at both the men's and women's home basketball games as well as certain community events throughout the year. The team also meets for practice two days a week but could possibly increase to three times a week in the future.
Potential members of the cheer team need to have some experience of cheering and tumbling.
"We are looking for a female who can throw a back tuck in some manner, and advanced tumbling is a plus," said Schaffer.
Participants in the tryouts should dress in shorts, cheer/tennis shoes, sports bra/top, hair pulled back out and out of the face of the participant, and no jewelry of any kind, including body jewelry.
Anyone who is interested in trying out must contact coach Schaffer at tshcaffer@isugw@indstate.edu before tryouts begin.
Potential members will also need to contact the athletic trainer for the cheer team, Renae Bower, at 237-3961 in order to get a physical form.
Participants will also need to bring proof of insurance to the tryouts and will be required to sign a waiver form before being able to participate.
"I am excited about working with the cheer team, taking the group to new levels, [it's] a great way to be a part of ISU," Schaffer said.
Contact Schaffer with any other questions regarding the tryouts.
