After a long spring football season, the Sycamores came into Saturday's Blue/White game with some expectations of good things.
As ISU saw great things and areas to build on, white won the game 35-28.
In this game, white was represented by the Sycamore offense and blue was represented by the Sycamore defense.
Scoring for the defensive side of the ball was defined if the defense stopped the offense, got a three-and-out or caused a turnover off the offense.
The Sycamore defense hit the offense with five three-and-outs in the scrimmage, including a picked-off pass delivered from the arm of freshman quarterback Travis Johnson.
Johnson led the Sycamores through the air with 17-25 for 277 yards and three touchdowns. Johnson led an 11-play drive, capped off by a 32-yard bomb to sophomore wide receiver Ryan Roberts, as Roberts got his foot down in the endzone for the touchdown.
Johnson also hit senior wide receiver Jeramie Gray for a 64-yard run down for a touchdown.
Junior running back Darrius Gates found his niche as he took his second carry of the game to the endzone on a cutback against the ISU defense.
Gates led the team in rushing with 106 yards on eight carries and scored a touchdown.
Gates was joined by junior running back Antoine Brown, who had 33 rushing yards and a touchdown.
"I thought it went well," said sophomore tight end Alex Jones. "As an offense, we executed our game plan pretty well, and the defense was aggresive and flying around as always. But, as a whole, I think we played pretty well for it only being a scrimmage."
The Sycamores open up the regular season Aug. 27th when it takes on Quincy at Memorial Stadium.
