The Vigo County Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting their annual Christmas Walk, this Friday and Saturday for those who wish to come out and see this year's display of holiday cheer, said Darlene Norman, the assistant superintendent. This is the 23rd annual Christmas Walk, hosted every year to allow the members of the community a chance to mingle with others and experience the holidays, Norman said. She said volunteers will portray an authentic pioneer Christmas for everyone. Along with the pioneer Christmas, there will carriage rides for a small fee and caroling. The pioneer site will be lit up to give it that true authentic feeling of Christmas activities of yore, Norman said. "Every year in the past we have had a great turnout with approximately 300 people attending each time," Norman said. "This year, we are expecting the same, if not more." According to the Parks and Recreations Web site, www.vigocounty.org/parks, there will be refreshments available for everyone who partakes in this event, including hot dogs, cakes, cookies and more. For those who wish to attend, it would be wise to dress warm and bring a flashlight, Norman said. The activities will be lasting until 9 p.m., and with the current weather, warm attire is a must. According to the Web site, the Christmas Walk will be in Fowler Park, located in southern Terre Haute, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. There is no cost to get in. However, to shop in the gift shop and ride on the carriage, various fees apply. For those who have trouble with parking, there will be a school bus available to take participants from their cars to the site location, and vise versa, Norman said.
