DIY - Alterations in four steps
Issue date: 10/8/08 Section: Advice
Step 1.
To alter skirts, try using a simple pleat to make the waist a little tighter. This will help keep the fabric's shape while still providing an easy solution.
Step 2.
Altering dresses can be done easily by first, you can add a belt at the waist. You can also create belt loops where needed, and use a scarf.
Step 3.
For pants that are too long, you can either roll them up and pin or hem them, or you can get shoes that elevate you slightly, decreasing the look of the length.
Step 4.
Shirts and tops are the hardest to alter. Try making dramatic changes, transforming shirts into tanks, using ties to shrink the sides, etc.
