Here's the deal- SGA President A.J. Patton addresses the other members of SGA Wednesday.

The first meeting of the year for the Indiana State Student Government Association was on Wednesday evening.
After a quick roll call of senators and speaking seats, A.J. Patton, President of SGA, gave his executive report. In his brief statement he addressed many topics of interest and concern to students.

Parking seems to be a campus-wide issue. However, Patton assured there are parking spots available on campus, even though they might not be in the most convenient location.

The up-and-coming Student Recreation Center has been moved in place of parking lots that were once available for students on campus.

Patton went on to address the new bus initiative that will come into effect on Oct. 1 of this year. Students have already been charged a $15 campus bus fee, which will allow all students to use the Terre Haute bus system free of charge with their ISU student IDs until the campus buses are available.

The meeting progressed with updates from the speaking seats representing various groups throughout our university. This portion of the meeting also included the introduction of the new Dean of Students, Carmen Tillery. Tillery hopes this is a great year for herself, the students and the faculty at ISU.

"I would like all students to keep me informed on student issues," Tillery said. "I want to know what affects students so we can make it better."

Following Tillery's words, John Pigg, from the College of Arts and Sciences, was elected and sworn in as the newest member of the ISU Senate. When asked what Pigg hoped for while he was on Senate he said, "I would like to see a more concrete plan to allow students to receive college credit for military basic training. As an active member of the Senate, I want to make that happen."

The meeting adjourned with a few closing thoughts for students. "I feel that it is important for students to know that SGA is working for them," Patton said. "We are always here to help."

Student Government Association meetings are at 7 p.m. every other Wednesday in Dede III. All students and faculty are welcome to attend.
