ISU alum injured at NIU

Graduate student in serious condition Sunday

A 2007 Indiana State University graduate is in serious condition after he was shot multiple times Thursday at Northern Illinois University.Brian Karpes, graduate student of geology at NIU, was serving as a teacher's assistant in a geology class when gunman Steven Kazmierczak, 27, opened fire on the class, injuring 16 people and killing five others along with himself.

University to continue safety efforts

Her mother married a Muslim; her best friend is an atheist, and her boyfriend is a Catholic."Being able to be exposed to several different religions in such a close proximity gives people such an opportunity to compare views and decide what path is the correct one for them is the most important part of being in a religion or being nonreligious," Tucker said.

In sports it is difficult to define a rivalry, but Indiana State found its own on Saturday as it battled with border-rival Illinois State.The Sycamore men's basketball fell down early to Redbird sophomore guard Osiris Eldridge's three-point shot but stormed back in the second half, fighting out a victory 76-72.

Tilson Auditorium seemed more like a sanctuary than an auditorium Sunday.Singers and audience members livened up the auditorium during the annual GospelFest, sponsored by the African-American Cultural Center.Six groups sang songs of praise and worship in celebration of Black History Month.

Professor uses fish to study cure for cancer

Researchers try to slow or stop the growth of tumors

The little striped zebrafish may not arouse much notice in an aquarium, but this fish has another purpose than simply swimming in the tank.This fish could help cure cancer, and the research into this theory is being tested here at ISU.Allan Albig, associate professor of physiology, is the leader of the research.
