Editor's Note: The cutline on the right is incorrect. Dr. Bradley visited in May 2008 not June 2008. The Indiana Statesman apologizes for this error and regrets any inconvenience it may have caused.

ISU's Board of Trustees unanimously selected Daniel J. Bradley as ISU's next president, Mike Alley, Board of Trustees president, said Tuesday. Bradley will not be confirmed, however, until July 9 during a special session of the Board of Trustees.
Bradley currently serves as president of Fairmont State University in Fairmont, W.Va.
"There were lots of reasons that we chose Dr. Bradley," Alley said. "His experience as a president was a key factor."
Bradley will begin work at ISU in early August, he said, although the exact date isn't set yet.
"He will definitely be here before school starts," Alley said.
This is good for Bradley, who said his favorite part of being president is the first (and last) days of school.
"Those are the happiest days," he said. "Everyone is excited and it is regenerating."
Current Provost C. Jack Maynard was appointed interim president at the June 20 meeting of the Board of Trustees. Current President Lloyd W. Benjamin III will step down as president on June 30, 2008.
Two others were considered for the position. They were Thomas Hynes, vice president of academic affairs at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, and David Belcher, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Member of the Board of Trustees and chair of the Presidential Search Committee Ron Carpenter told the Indiana Statesman in early June that the candidates' strong backgrounds in leadership, good track records in faculty leadership and student engagement set them apart and were key qualifiers.
"All three candidates were a great fit for ISU," Alley said. "(Bradley) really had a strong cultural fit with ISU, the community and the state."
Bradley was also a candidate for the presidency at Oregon Institute of Technology, but chose to work for ISU.
"It fit my personality better and seemed like the right place for (my wife and I)," Bradley said.
During Bradley's tenure as president of FSU, the university has grown considerably. The university, which currently has a student enrollment of about 7,740 students and a student/faculty ratio of 17:1, has increased enrollment by 10 percent since the fall of 2000, initiated a student retention and graduation initiative, and developed a faculty merit evaluation system.
