When students think of going to a dance, many probably think of music and having fun with their friends. What they usually don't think of is being witness to a fight.

That is exactly what happened at last week's SGA Dance in Dede Plaza.

"There was a fight during the SGA dance in [Dede Plaza] and we were called a little before 11 p.m.," said Bill Mercier, director of public safety. "As a result we did arrest one person, John Smith."

Mercier said Smith was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and minor consumption of alcohol.

Mercier said Public Safety is currently investigating the cause of the fight and whether any organizations were involved.

"We are pretty much done with our end of it," Mercier said. "The Dean of Students' office is looking into other issues as far as other groups being involved and that will be handled as more information surfaces."

Mercier said if Smith is convicted of the charges, he would most likely be looking at probation and a potential fine.

An investigation is under way by the Dean of Students' Office and more information is pending.
