Among many variables, impression plays a large part in the configuration of a polite society.
While a number of impressions are necessary to accurately judge a person, the first of these plays the most crucial role.
There are sure consequences to first impressions, which can go badly. In an employment situation where you, perhaps, say an offensive statement or oppose the employer, there may not be any future impressions for you.
In a more personal situation, like meeting the friends of your significant other, a negative first impression can lead to many unwanted effects.
Those who meet you and feel an uncertainty of your character will surely tell your significant other, which could result in the end of a relationship.
So how do we achieve this so-called "great first impression?" First there are many small steps, some of which have been discussed in previous articles.
Appearance, appearance, appearance is always the first step in gaining the positive opinions of others. When in a meaningful or significant event, it is forever fitting to look your best.
Simple things, such as brushing your hair, wearing jeans with no holes and, perhaps, tossing a Tic Tac in your yapper show that you care about the situation you are about to walk into, therefore gaining the respect of those involved.
The next step is reservation. When engaged with new people and situations, it is suggested you reserve certain aspects of yourself from the conversation.
For example, you may find a joke about a woman making a sandwich sidesplitting while your company quickly detects you as rude and without tact.
Another example of reservation is that of political, religious or sexual exemption.
If you are unaware of any of these aspects in respect to those who are meeting you, it's a safe move to avoid them.
Still, the next step may seem contradictory. To be congenial is also of utmost importance.
To be congenial is simple. Be interested in others' interests. You'll find people love to talk about things they love, and automatically you're a charming party guest.
While there is generally room for a secondary impression, the first is definitive in the making of an opinion.
The steps to a positive first impression are simple. Look nice, act nice and, finally, be nice.
