ISU falls in opening game at Bob Warn Field, wins series against Tennessee Martin

The Sycamore baseball team (7-5) fell in the inaugural game at Bob Warn Field to Tennessee Martin March 6.

The Sycamores lost 4-3 to the Skyhawks, and senior center fielder Ryan Strausborger went 3-5 with one RBI. Freshman right fielder Robby Ort went 2-4 with two RBI's.

The Sycamores then rebounded and defeated the Skyhawks the next two games 5-4 (13 innings) and 8-2 to win the opening series at Bob Ward Field 2-1.

Senior designated hitter Tyler Graham hit a walkoff single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 13th inning to give the Sycamores their first win at Bob Warn Field.

The Sycamores then used the momentum to grab their second straight win over the Skyhawks. The Sycamores scored seven runs over the last two innings for an 8-2 win.

Ort went 2-4 from the plate with a run and three RBIs, including a triple to break a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Sycamores then traveled to Dayton, Ohio Friday to take on the Flyers of Dayton University (5-8).

The Flyers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and the Sycamores could never close the gap.
Even with scoring four runs over the final two innings, the Sycamores were unable to continue their win streak and fell to the Flyers 8-4.

The Sycamores also took the field Tuesday on the road against St. Louis University (8-9), where they came away with a 14-9 win over the Billikens.`

The Sycamores will next play Friday when they return home to play host to Western Michigan in a 4-game series starting at 3 p.m. Friday at Bob Ward Field.
